This picture is a still from a promotional movie "The Scottish Shale Industry" produced by Scottish Oils Ltd in c. 1929. The photograph is believed to have been taken in the back yard of their house at Dalmeny Rows sometime between 1912 and 1918. In the background can be seen a set of train wagons indicating that the house backed onto the railway therefore would probably have been a two room house. Young Alice (the mother of the owner of the original photograph) is recorded as saying that she had to borrow the teddy bear from a friend as she was too poor to have one of her own.
