Includes an index to estates shale leases etc. which includes details on leases in operation during this time. Including; The Broxburn Oil Company Limited The Oakbank Oil Company Limited The Pumpherston Oil Company Limited Youmg`s Paraffin Light & Mineral Oil Company Limited Also includes some loose leaf pages titled 'Town and Country Planning Act. Estimated Outputs of shale in thousands of tons from the various estates up to the year ending 30th June 1998' and another which details the wayleave payment made by Young's Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil Company Limited for the sum of £250 for Burngrange shale. Towards the end of the book are a few pages detailing the 'Duration of Lease to make up "shorts"' referring to the Young's Paraffin Light & Mineral Oil Company Limited in relation to the Hermand and Birniehill via Hermand Mine. There is also a letter attached to the page following this which has been sent from Young's Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil Company Limited to M. McCarthy, Esq., H. M. Senior District Inspector of Mines and Quarries giving notice of the cessation of production from the Dunnet Oil Shale Seam at the Herman Mind on Friday 17th February 1961 and that dismantling of underground equipment is in process and that the mouth of the mine will be filled in immediately thereafter. They conclude by stating that they will send notice of abandonment subsequently.
