Scottish Oils Limited Folder of various correspondence and documentation from 1950-1953, including details of the oil production, information of the industry itself, and minutes of meetings.

Concerns details of the operation of the shale oil production in Scotland and general issues affecting the industry. Matters covered include the planned extensions to the Westwood shale distillation and by-products recovery plant, the Niddry Castle crude oil works and the Pumpherston refinery; accident reports; negotiations for a Grangemouth / Balloch 12" pipeline; the sale of Baads Coal Mine; the dock dues at Grangemouth Refinery and Aden Refinery payment agreements.

Also included is information about the general state of the industry; correspondence with V Butler, an Under-secretary in the Ministry of Fuel and Power, and J McKelvie, the General Secretary of the National Union of Shale Miners and Oil Workers, about government assistance, which contains a summary of the history of the industry and an account of its present state dated 30 October 1952; notes about the communications of the MPs of North and West Lothian with the Treasury which outline their suggestions for measures to assist the industry by altering the rules governing duty on indigenous hydrocarbon oils.

Also includes minutes of the meetings of Scottish Oils Ltd (SO) and representatives of the National Union of Shale Miners and Oil Workers held on 25 April, 16 and 20 June 1951 held to discuss wages; a memorandum about the strike at Grangemouth Refinery in May 1950; booklets of the Report and Balance Sheet of the National Union of Shale Miners and Oil Workers for the years 1951 and 1952; a memorandum outlining SO's proposals for the future development of the shale oil industry from December 1950 and including statements of number of employees, wages paid, indigenous preference earned, yearly output, net profits etc; a report on the detergent section of Irano Production Ltd from June 1950; notes on the final accounts of the SO for 1949 and an estimate of the probable results for 1950; reports on SO's operations from June and September 1950.
