We the parties following viz:- (First) Peter McLagan of Pumpherstone, M. P., (Second) Mrs Mary Anne
Buyers or Meldrum or Madden residing at Dechmont sometime widow of the deceased Edward Meldrum
of Dechmont now widow of William Herries Madden M.D formerly of Torquay and Robert Reid, Grocer,
Cowcaddens Street, Glasgow, the surviving Testamentary Trustees of the said deceased Edward Meldrum
Considering that Whereas by Lease the 23rd and 28th days of April 1870 entered into between the Right
Honourable John Alexander Earl of Hopetoun as proprietor, on the one part, and me the said Peter
McLagan the said Edward Meldrum and George Simpson, Coal Master, Benhar, as tenants on the other
part, there was let to the said tenant certain Minerals in part of the lands and estate/

estate of Hopetoun and others situated in the parishes of Dalmeny Ecclesmachan and Kirkliston for
twenty five years from Whitsunday 1870 subject to the breaks therein mentioned, to the tenants part of
which Lease the Uphall Oil Company Limited acquired right conform to Minute of Agreement between
the Uphall Mineral Oil company Limited and the Liquidators thereof, of the first part, Thomas Thornton
of Fauldhouse, Coalmaster, for and on behalf of the said Uphall Oil Company Limited of the second part
and us the granters hereof and the said George Simpson, of the third part, dated 15th March 1876 and
subsequent dates: And Whereas by Missive Letters dated 20th & 21st December 1883 entered into between
the Broxburn Oil Company Limited and said Uphall Oil Company Limited it was agreed that/

that a portion of the minerals contained in said Lease and coloured yellow on a plan signed as relative to said Missive Letters should be exchanged or excambed by the latter to the former for certain portions of
the minerals in the estate of Buchan leased by the Broxburn Oil Company Limited and coloured blue on
said plan each of said Companies paying to the other the royalties thereinmentioned as the said Missives
which are referred to brevitatis causa in themselves more fully bear. And seeing it was a condition of said
Excambion being agreed to by the said Earl that we the granters thereof should execute these presents in
manner under written Therefore I the said Peter McLagan and we the said Mrs Mary Ann Buyers or
Meldrum or Madden and Robert/

Robert Reid as Trustees foresaid Do hereby acknowledge that not withstanding said missives and the
Agreement therein contained we shall remain bound for the rents on lordships payable or to become
payable under said Lease in respect of the minerals wrought or to be wrought out by the Broxburn Oil
company Limited from the portion of the lands of Hopetoun coloured yellow on said plan in the same
way as if the land had been worked by the original lessees under said Lease: But reserving to us our rights
of relief against the said Broxburn Oil Company Limited the Uphall Mineral Oil Company Limited : In
witness whereof these presents written on stamped paper by John Miller Sclater Clerk to Bannatyne

in Glasgow are subscribed by us the parties hereto as follows viz :- by us the said Mrs Mary Anne Buyers
or Meldrum or Madden and Robert Reid as Trustees foresaid at Dechmont aforesaid upon the 1st day of
February in the year 1884 before these witnesses Miss Jane Lang Meldrum residing at Dechmont
aforesaid and John Gair, Writer in Falkirk; and by me the said Peter McLagan at London upon the 7th
day of the month and year last mentioned before these witnesses Nathaniel Villeurs John Strode residing at
Chiselhurst and John Henry Tod, Merchant, Walford.
