2 leases: Lease (1) between the Trustees of the late John Young of Addiewell and Young's Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil Company Limited regarding Shale in Lands of Auchenhard. Dated 1918 AND Sub-Lease (2) between Young's Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil Company Limited and Robert Barrie of Farm Auchenhard. Dated 1931. Lease 1 - details the agreement to lease the Lands of Auchenhard in the Parish of Livingstone [sic] and County of Linlithgow to Young's Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil Company Limited by Mrs Christina MacLellan. It outlines that the company may work the shale from a pit or pits on adjoining lands belonging to or leased by them but that they are not entitled to sink pits, make bings or otherwise enter upon or occupy any part of the surface of the ground overlying the shale without consent of the Landlords.
