Description

Copy Discharge by Young's Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil Company Limited in favour of the Caledonian Railway Company relating to Cleland and Midcalder Branch, minerals under viaduct at West Calder, dated 25th March 1908. The document records the payment of compensation from the Caledonian Railway in respect to a seam of shale beneath the West Calder viaduct which is to be left unworked. Includes map titled "Caledonian Railway–Cleland and Midcalder Branch–Plan showing block of shale under viaduct at West Calder, the property of A. Akers Douglas. Note:- area tinted red on plan - 4108 square yards". Map highlights numbered areas referred to in the discharge in red. Scale of the map is ca. 3/4" to 100 ft. It also contains a hand-written note which states "This is the plan referred to and signed as relative to Discharge by Young's Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil Coy Ltd in favour of the Caledonian Railway Company relating to Broxburn Shale under viaduct at West Calder dated 25th March 1908.
