The handwritten minute, dated 30th December 1908 and 6th January 1909, is stitched with blue tape, and concerns the carriage of shale and minerals across the Pumpherstone estate via the Uphall and Hopetoun Railway. Attached are some typewritten letters concerning later developments. The earliest of these, dated 17th August 1920 is from Thomas & McLeish to Young's commercial manager and concerns the planned construction of a connection between the Uphall and Hopetoun Railway and Young's Middleton Hall works. A reply to this letter from Youngs', dated 24th August 1920 accepts these terms. The final letters, dated 8th September 1952 note that the line is now being dismantled and that Young's is giving the estate formal notice of their intention to terminate the agreement at Martinmas 1953.
