Description
Agreement with Peter Smith for ground taken from West Mains Farm, West Calder. Consists of a typed letter from Young's Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil Company Limited, dated 31st August 1909, setting forth the terms of an agreement made by J. Inglis Davidson with Peter Smith. Smith is to receive the sum of £71/4/8 in payment for ground taken and damage done up to Martinmas 1908 and an annual payment of £40 thereafter, in return for which Smith will withdraw any claim for smoke damage in respect of the permanent pit chimney on the farm. A handwritten letter from Smith dated 3rd September 1909 acknowledges receipt of the first payment, though he carps a little.
