Description
Copy of black and white photograph of Westwood Pit, West Calder. A view of the surface arrangements showing the 2 shafts. These shafts are equipped to handle men and materials but the one on the left is normally only used for ventilation. The air duct and fan house are seend to the left. Each shaft has its own independent steam driving winding engine housed in the building immediately behind the head-gear. The taller building between the shafts houses the steam driven electric generator sets which supply power for the pumping and hauling underground.
