Alexander Lumsden (c.1827-1894)

First name:
Alexander
Second name:
Lumsden
Date of death:
11/06/1894

A handsome memorial tablet has been erected in West Calder cemetery to the memory of the late Alexander Lumsden, M.E. Excepting as showing the wish of his many friends, and all who knew him were his friends, then was little need of erecting a memorial to his memory, as it lives green in the memory of the wide circle who bad the pleasure of his acquaintance. Mr Lumsden, whom early days were spent in the neighbourhood of Coatbridge and Airdrie, retained through life fond recollections of both places. By extensive travel abroad he acquired a broadness of mind towards all mankind, which he retained to the last. The tablet, which is of white marble, bears the following inscription: "In memory of Alexander Lumsden; for 20 years mining engineer at Addiewell Works, and who died at Bell's Quarry on 11th June, 1894, aged 67 years. Erected by the workmen and his many friends."
