OBITUARY
The death of Mr Michael Brogan occurred in an Edinburgh Hospital. Mr Brogan, who was still on the sunny side of fifty, had been ill for less than a fortnight and his death came as a great shock to his family and his many friends everywhere. More poignant still, he was married only some eight weeks before his death. A shale miner until recently, Mr Brogan was well known locally as a very pleasing baritone singer. He came off a very musical family and was a brother of John Brogan, the well-known professional bass singer, who was at one time a member of the D'Oyly Carte opera Company and other famous musical combinations. Michael who was of a cheerful and obliging disposition, was ever ready to give his services to all worthy objects and did good service at many charity concerts in Broxburn and district and at concerts in local hospitals. He was well known among the younger generation for his association with Mr Major Walker at the Regal theatre, where he took part in many stage shows under the auspices of the theatre "Mickey Mouse Club". Invariably he acted as Santa Claus at Regal Christmas matinees. He never quite succeeded in hiding his identity completely but the children loved him more for it. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass in Edinburgh on Wednesday and among the pall-bearers were Mr John Brogan, who had travelled from London for the funeral, and Mr Major Walker as an old friend and associate of deceased.
