OBITUARY
The severe weather we have been experiencing of late is exacting heavy toll, especially among older folks. Quite a number of well-known olfer people among the residents have slipped away in recent weeks. One of the latest was Mr Robert Prentice, Castle Terrace, who died last week-end after a comparitvely short illness. He had lived for many years in Wincburgh where, up to his retiral some years ago, he was employed at Niddry Castle Works. A keen Trade Unionist and Socialist, he did good work as a member and offical of the local branch of the National Union of Shale Minersand Oil Workers of which he was at various times Secretary and President. He was one of the pioneers of the Labour Party locally and did yeoman service for the cause he favoured when the fight was on to establish Labour ideals and Parliamentary representation locally. Bob was also a keen brass band enthusiast and in the early days of Winchburgh Public Band was an office-bearer and keen worker to establish this local combination. An intelligent and conscientious man, he kept himself well-informed upon events of the day and showed his public spirit by the keen interest he manifested in all things pertaning to the village and its well-being and was because of it, highly respected by all who knew him. He is survived by his widow and grown-up family, to whom all sympathy has been extended.
