Railway crossings and bridges
Mineral railways and hutch haulages carried shale and shale products between mines, works, and refineries. Where these lines crossed a public road, whether by overbridge, underbridge, or level crossing, consent needed to be obtained from the roads authority, and appropriate legal agreement put in place. Various records of these agreements survive within the BP archive.
