Description

Metal miner's lunch / piece box, arch shaped with handle at base, opens up to separate into 2 sections.

These provided proof against mine rats and horses. Also used in oil works to protect against dirt and grease.

Owned by Mr. William McDowall Snr, born Oakbank 1900. William McDowall Snr worked in Dedridge Pit for a few months circa 1914 before serving his apprenticeship as an engineer in Oakbank Oil Works until its closure in 1930. He then worked at Pumpherston Oil Works as Foreman Engineer until 1962. Moved to 3 Letham Park on 28th October 1936 (Letham Park was built for the more senior refinery workers)
