Mr McWhinnie commenced his apprenticeship with Oakbank Oil Company Ltd, Scottish Oils Ltd on 06/12/1938. He worked in the underground oil shale mines until July 1947 engaging in production, shot-firing, repairing and maintenance. He then worked in in the Mining Engineering Staff Drawing Office preparing surface and underground plans, layout and planning.
