Miner's mash hammer: heavy headed hammer with a long shaft used for placing roof props, circa 1950.

Part of a miner's "graith" or toolkit which was the personal property of each faceman.

Donated by Andrew Turnbull, a shale miner for Scottish Oils Ltd, from Winchburgh. He began working aged 14
