Description

Handwritten copy letter dated 27th June 1884, Linlithgow from Messrs Glen and Henderson (solicitors) to Messrs Tods, Murray and Jamieson (solicitors) regarding the line of the proposed railway through the leased grounds of Champfleurie.

Glen and Henderson, acting on behalf of Captain Stewart, raise concerns that proposed plans run through an ornamental belt of plantation and propose an alternative route for the lessees (Linlithgow Oil Company Ltd) to transport shale from their mine to the canal at Park via Kingscavil Quarry. They suggest that the existing tunnel under the public road at Old Kingscavil Quarry could be used rather than build a bridge over the road and point out that the lessees may be liable for damages if the railway is not kept away from the mansion house.
