A small oil refinery, perhaps engaged in refining or blending locally produced oils, which was put up for sale in 1871. The works continued under the ownership of Robert Jolley & Co, as a general oil merchant and asphalter, until at least 1894.

      On MONDAY, JULY 1871, Three o’clock in the Messrs. Lamb and Sons have received instructions to SELL BY AUCTION, on Monday, the 17th day of July 1871, at the above address at Three o'clock in the afternoon, the whole of the WORKING PLANT. STOCK-IN-TRADE, &c. (unless disposed of by Private Treaty of which due notice will be given), Comprising one cast-iron resin still, capacity about one ton, with cast-iron bent pipes, and cast iron worm, furnace, brickwork, &c. complete; wrought iron still, capacity about half a ton, with cast-iron worm, and wood worm tank, brickwork, &c. complete; four iron boilers various sizes, with furnaces and brickwork. &c.; one horse wrought iron boiler; an excellent weighing machine. by H. Pooley, to weigh.ten cwt; quantity of petroleum, oil, gas tar, and vitrol; 30 gallons of resil oil ; about three cwt of red lead; lead ore; about one ton of various kinds of grease , &c.: about thirty oil cases, different sizes, lime tubs; wood erection forming building I5 yards by 10 yards, with shed. Office and Office fixtures, cast-iront spouts, iron and tin pumps, sieves, scoops, buckets, tundish, planks, gauge rod, wheelbarrow, spades, slice and fire rakes & c.
