Description

Chart detailing processes at Pumpherston Oil Co. Handwritten, titled "Process in the manufacture of oil as carried out at Pumpherston Oil Works / 1888 111. 6% crude oil treated with about 11% acid tar, loss 12.14%".

Details of chart annotated in colour - blue, red, yellow and grey. Key to these colours at the bottom right. Signed in the bottom right section "James M Petrie".

The Petrie family moved to Newnes, Blue Mountains, New South Wales, Australia in 1910 then to Glen Davis, New South Wales from Pumpherston to start the shale oil industry at Newnes. A group of objects went from Pumpherston to Australia. The family have now returned to Scotland and gave the documents relating to the oil industry in Australia to a museum there and the documents relating to West Lothian to the Almond Valley Heritage Trust. Mr Petrie was Mrs Lorimer's (the donor) great-grandfather, he worked at Pumpherston Oil Works for 25 years as Refinery Manager and as Director and Advisor in Australia. Her grandfather and father also worked in the industry
