Valuation rolls and other sources, (see "snippets" below), record the Auchinheath Chemical Company as proprietors of small-scale Auchinheath oil works. Redwood however lists the owners as "J. & J. Baird".

The nearby Kirkmuirhill Oil Works, (which appears to have share a site with a tileworks) is recorded in valuation rolls as being operated by John and James Baird. James Baird Junior is known to have been proprietor of Auchinheath tile works until his bancruptcy in 1894. This evidence suggests that the Baird family may have been associated with the Auchinheath Chemical Company . No link has been found between John and James Baird and John Baird and John Baird Junior proprietors of the Annick Lodge Oil Works and several other crude oil works in Ayrshire.
