Trade directories list John Baird as proprietor of Kilwinning Oil Works and John Baird as proprietor of Doura Oil Works, while John Baird and John Baird Junior are known to have controlled the Annick Lodge Oil Company. Further work is required to determine the relationship between these proprietors of Ayrshire oil works.

Evidence suggests these Ayrshire oil masters are seperate from the members of the Baird family (notably John and James Baird) who operated Kirkmuirhill, and perhaps other small oil works in Lanarkshire.
