One of two public companies formed from the division of the private firm of James Ross & Co.

James Ross & Co. (Philpstoun Works) Ltd. took forward the shale oil interests of the old firm, merging soon afterwards with the other surviving shale oil companies to form Scottish Oils Ltd. The tar refining and chemical interests of the old firm, based in Falkirk, continued as James Ross & Co. (Lime Wharf) Ltd.

James Ross & Co. (Philpstoun Works) Ltd was wound up in 1936 following closure of the Philpstoun crude oil works.
