A pit in the lands of Torbanehill to the Boghead Coal, common coal and ironstone, with a shaft about 41 fathoms (75m.) deep, served by the Torbane branch of the Monkland Railway. Northrigg No.7 pit subsequently sunk at the location

According to the OS Name Book OS1/34/9/42 c.1854:

About 45 chains East South East of Torbane. This pit is also in an unfinished state and will be about 40 fathoms deep & worked by an engine of 15 horse power - The Company will work it also - It contains both coal & ironstone.
