Vertical shaft

Serving Addiewell Oil Works

A short-lived mine or level accessing a small reserve of Grey Shale also exploited by Addiewell No. 2 Mine. Presumably the mine follow the shale from its exposure on the southern bank of the Breich Water and may have been an exploratory working, or driven to improve drainage or ventilation.

Mapped by the Ordnance Survey of c.1895, showing little trace of pit structures.
